We’ve compiled 20 of the hottest 2022 summer interior design trends you need to know now!

Multi-Functional Rooms

Partitioning and separating spaces will be a huge trend you’ll see this season. The reason being is that so many of us have rooms that double as something else, especially having to spend so much time in our homes now. Dining rooms double as playrooms, kitchens serve as home offices, and bedrooms used as classrooms. That being said, it’s important to separate spaces within rooms and create a sense of peace and tranquility, giving a sole purpose to one area by closing up that open floor plan we loved so much.
Spa Bathrooms

Creating an indulgent spa bathroom will be popular this season. Who doesn’t want a comfortable, luxurious place to unwind at the end of a hard day? The minimalist-designed at-home spa is achieved by implementing low lighting, neutral colors, natural materials, and high-performance showers. It’s essential to focus on how your mood shifts as you enter the room. Check out our favorite free-standing tubs if you’re looking to do a complete remodel!
Self Spaces

In the spirit of creating room for yourself this season, we have self spaces. Whether it’s a corner in your living room with a bookshelf and a comfortable chair, an office area designed just for you, whatever it is – it’s yours. Taking a space in your home and making it a little sanctuary just for you can go a long way and will be a popular trend seen in 2022!
Biophilic Design

Biophilic design isn’t a trend we see going away very soon so it’s only right to be included on the list of 2022 summer interior trends. Builders and home owners everywhere are implementing biophilic design, and for good reason. The principle is to connect the rooms to nature by maximizing natural light and air throughout the space. Designing the room with natural elements, like plants and natural materials, will help achieve this goal. The sustainability movement is here to stay and reflecting that in our homes not only connects us to nature and the Earth but reminds us to reduce our carbon footprint in every way possible. Not only does biophiliac design adds visual intrigue while also mimicking the calming, restorative ambiance of the outdoors, but it can improve our overall well-being by reducing stress, improving brain function, and promoting creativity and healing. Dream Garden

Since the pandemic, gardens have began to flourish more and more for obvious reasons. This year, we’re taking it a step further. Dream gardens refers to not only planting your gorgeous gardens, but going all out with the patio furniture, lighting, speakers, and entire outdoor set up. The garden, after all, is the best place in the yard to hang out.
Shades of Brown

From cognac to burnt amber, natural browns will be popping out a bit more in 2022. Although neutrals in general are on their way out, these earthy tones are here for their monochromatic moment.
Travel Inspired

2022 interior design trends for the Spring and Summer take on a nomadic, adventurous flare. Now that people are traveling again, more and more people are displaying their travel goods and taking on different styles for their homes. Not only is travel inspired decor and furniture a good conversation starter, but it adds personality and warmth to your home!
Maximalism

Gone are the days of white on white. Since the end of last year, Google searches for maximalist interior design jumped almost 300%. Implementing bigger and bolder patterns and accessories will be very trendy for, predictably, the rest of this year. Achieve this goal by matching and clashing patterns and colors – go big and you can’t go wrong!
Pet Spaces

Needless to say, 2022 summer interior trends include our pets because after all, they are our everything. Spending so much time at home with them has made so many of us realize that we need a designated spot for our friends! I’m not talking about a hose in the yard on the way in to wash off their muddy paws – I mean an entire area dedicated to them. Built-in dog showers are popping up in foyers with luxurious additives (like warm water!) that connect seamlessly with your design choices.
Shades of Green

Green hues will be all over the design industry this season – from fashion to interiors! Shades of green will fill homes, bringing that warm, natural feel indoors. Deeper hues of green, like emerald, will feel luxurious and soothing.
Intentional Organization

Google searches saw a 700% increase in decluttering since the end of last year. Now more than ever, Spring cleaning is not only essential but trendy. Considered organization means getting rid of everything you don’t need in the open that clutter up your space. Intentionally display your items in an organized manner!
Natural Surfaces

Next on the list of 2022 summer interior trends: natural surfaces. From backsplashes to bathtubs, furniture, decorations, and accessories, natural surfaces will be seen everywhere in Spring and Summer 2022. Stoneware, marble, and terra-cotta are just some of the raw, porous, and imperfect natural elements we’ll be working with. Using organic materials adds depth, soul, and warmth.
Bold Patterns and Colors

Maximalism is in full play here, meaning you can’t go wrong with any style, pattern, and color block you choose. Feel free to display your personality in all parts of your home – from your curtains to your artwork to your throw pillows! Now’s the time to splash color and patterns throughout, mixing perfect pairs that make you happy.
Curved Furniture

Curved furniture and architecture is subconsciously and historically seen as soft, feminine, safe, friendly and welcoming which is why we’re welcoming this trend into our homes all Spring and Summer 2022! Think coffee tables, chairs, headboards, etc. Arched doorways are also making a comeback if you feel like getting really fancy with it this season, as well as curved bar designs and kitchen island countertops.
Up and Coming Artwork
Gone are the days of high-brow art collecting. We’re saying hello to up and coming artwork dominating the scene. Fresh artistic faces will be trendy this season as more people opt for art collections that reflect our real world with new perspectives and can only be achieved through the diversity that these artists have to offer.
High Tech Homes

As always, innovative technology continues to evolve in the design world. Embracing new technology in the home is essential when creating personal, immersive spaces. Implementing technology within the home can feel futuristic and contemporary when done right.
Vintage / Sustainable Pieces

Always opt for the secondhand, vintage pieces! Not only does it add warmth to every space, but it adds so much history and sentimentality. Rare antiques and vintage finds are stylishly sustainable and repurposing old, damaged, or worn out pieces are a great way to reduce our carbon footprint – not to mention a great conversation starter.
Leather

In the spirit of making old feel like new, more people are purchasing leather furniture in rich tones. The tones of the furniture offsets any metallics used in the space and the older, “worn out” feeling of the leather adds so much character and personality to the space. The leather tells a story in itself and we’ll be seeing more and more of that in the Spring and Summer of 2022.
Wellness

While wellness should be a top priority all year round, it really takes a font seat this year. With the spa bathrooms, the self-spaces, and the calming natural designs, it’s no wonder “wellness” as a whole made it to this list. Implementing wellness around your home is easy, it’s all about how the space makes YOU feel. If you love the calming smell of lavender, put lavender candles in the spaces you want to feel relaxed in. Put low-light mood lamps in your self-space and make a part of your home, or your entire home, a retreat!
